To help them I wrote this article hopping to at least make them understand what is causing this problem and how to prevent it. So here it is.

Smelly feet, also known as ‘bromohydrosis’, are the result of the interaction between perspiration and the bacteria that lurk in you shoes and socks. The foot and hands contain the most sweat glands than any other part of the body ( about 3000 glands per square inch). Inside the shoe the temperature reaches sometimes 102 F. So this temperature combined with the moisture generated by the sweat glands constitute the perfect environment and a fertile breeding ground for the bacteria responsible for your smelly feet.

The bacteria that are often found in foot odor are usually corynebacterium and micrococcus species. They produce the isovaleric acid which is main substance responsible for the smelly feet. So, successful treatment of smelly feet depends on eliminating the organisms.

Smelly feet can also be caused by an inherited condition called hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, which primarily affects males. Stress, fluid intake and hormonal changes also can increase the amount of perspiration your body produces.

Foot Odor Spray

Foot Odor Spray

Foot spray products are not simply for removing odors. You can use the foot spray products to freshen up your tootsies, especially after a long day out. In foot odor spray, foot spray odor, some cases, you can help prevent the possible appearance of heel fissures (cracked heels) and other foot related ailments by keeping this area cool and moisturized.

However, there have been some general warnings issued about excessive use of chemical foot sprays. Some of these products are strong enough to actually cause blisters and skin sores. Your best option would then have to be those products that are herbal, organic, or natural based.

Check the list of ingredients in the product labels to ensure that the foot spray products you want to use have less than 10% to 15% chemicals.

Or, you could make your own foot spray mixture. In this case, you know exactly what you are applying to your tootsies, and you do not have to worry about the appearance of blisters and sores because you know for a fact that the product you are using is herbal based. Here are some tips on how to make your own natural foot sprays.

Tip: For minty tea tree oil foot spray, you would need half a cup teaspoon of mint essential oil (peppermint works best,) half a cup of tea tree oil, 1 cup distilled water and 1 cup vodka. Combine all three ingredients in a spray bottle, shake well and store inside the refrigerator before using.

You can spray this mixture as often as you want for that great refreshing and moisturizing feel. However, make sure that the mixture dries on your skin first before you wear socks or hosiery. This mixture is also great for deodorizing footwear. Try to spray some on a discreet area first to test for possible discoloration.

Tip: For another refreshing spray recipe, you would need: 2 ounces of witch hazel astringent (may contain ethyl alcohol); 1 drop of tea tree essential oil; 1 drop of rosemary essential oil; and about 10 drops of peppermint essential oil. Combine this in a spray bottle and shake gently. Refrigerate before using. You can likewise substitute witch hazel infusion if you can find it, or create one by simply boiling 1 cup of distilled water and pouring it over fresh witch hazel flowers, buds and leaves. Store in a tightly capped Mason jar for one day; shaking the jar once in a while. Strain everything away to clear the water. Use the witch hazel infusion as directed above.

Tip: For natural anti-fungal foot sprays, you would need: 2 ounces of distilled water; 5 drops of lemongrass essential oil; 5 drops of myrrh essential oil; and 5 drops of patchouli essential oil. Pour all the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake vigorously before using.

There is no need to refrigerate this mixture. However, it will be better if you can keep the bottle in a cool storage place when not in use, and preferably away from direct sunlight. If these ingredients are rather hard to find, you can substitute citronella oil for lemongrass oil; rose oil for myrrh oil; and any mint oil for patchouli oil.

These sprays are definitely a lot easier to use than the conventional foot creams, scrubs and massage oils. However, it is still important to wash feet, trim nails and moisturize the skin in that area regularly to ensure healthy feet.

Foot Pain

Foot Pain and Foot Ailments Foot Pain, painful feet,.

If it’s getting harder to put one foot in front of the other, chances are you’re not alone.

In fact, podiatrists say that millions of Americans experience some kind of foot trouble on a regular basis. These problems can range from foot odor to ingrown toenails to various types of pain.

Foot ailments are among the most common health problems affecting the American population. However, many don’t seek medical treatment because they mistakenly believe that discomfort and pain are normal and expectable – especially with age.

A recent survey conducted by the American Podiatric Medical Association of 1,695 adults ages 18 to 60 found that 47 percent had experienced a foot ailment in their lifetime. Although the prevalence of foot ailments was high, only about 7 percent had visited a podiatrist. About 16 percent treated their condition with over-the-counter products.

Men experienced slightly more cases of tendonitis, skin cancer and nail problems, while women suffered more general types of foot pain, including pain in the balls of the feet, heel pain and pain from shoes or orthotics, the survey found. More women than men had bunions: 3.31 percent versus 1.57 percent, respectively.

More than 11 percent of those surveyed said they did nothing to treat their conditions and instead lived with the pain.

Nearly 19 percent of the respondents admitted that foot pain inhibited them from performing daily activities such as going to work or the gym. Among the older people surveyed, that number increased to nearly 29 percent.

Although some foot ailments can be traced to heredity, many stem from the cumulative impact of a lifetime of abuse and neglect. And because of the amount of mileage we put on our feet, podiatrists say the feet are more susceptible to injury than any part of the body.  For cure for foot odor go here.

How To Treat Foot Odor

February 20th, 2009

How To Treat Foot Odor

How To Treat Foot Odor, control foot odor

Foot odor is a type of body odor that affects the feet of humans and is generally considered to be an unpleasant smell. Foot odor is common when you wear shoes that don’t “breathe”. Foot odor is caused by bacteria that reproduce rapidly. Foot odor is one of the toughest problems to overcome mostly because there has been little research into the condition.

Sweaty Feet and Foot Odor are very close to each other. Sometimes People are talking about sweaty feet but they actually mean Foot Odor. There is a good explanation for it because foot odor only can exist when your feet are producing enough sweat to let the bacteria, causing this odor, grow and expand in their environment.

It is important to realize that bacteria cover every surface of your skin and are inside your pores and sweat glands. Bacteria are in the air and on everything you touch. Bacteria are not necessarily bad. There is a natural balance of “good” and “bad” bacteria on your skin, in your airways and even in your intestines. Due to the natural balance of these bacteria, the “bad” bacteria are not present in sufficient numbers to cause disease (e.g. pneumonia, certain ulcers, etc) or in this case, persistent excessive odor. ‘Bad’ bacteria for our discussion include corynebacteria and micrococci, the bacteria that cause unpleasant body odors and the odors emanating from your shoes.

Some people take zinc supplements to prevent foot odor, because they believe foot odor can be a sign of zinc deficiency. Get your doctor’s opinion before you try this, and ask for a dosage recommendation, so you don’t take a toxic amount.

PediSpray is a liquid which will do its job by producing formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a substance which they can’t live in. So eventually those bacteria which will eventually kill themselves. Isn’t that great. Even the ones who are left behind or which do survive after some treatments can’t find decent material to grow on. That will cut them down for ever.

Sprinkle talcum powder or one of the commercial foot powders (which sometimes ARE talcum powder) into the toes of your socks to help keep your feet dry and discourage the growth of bacteria. Some people like to use baking soda, but others say it feels gritty against their skin.

Wash well. Those sweat glands on the soles of your feet produce perspiration composed of water, sodium chloride, fat, minerals, and various acids that are end products of your body’s metabolism. In the presence of certain bacteria, these sweaty secretions break down, generating a foul smell. Washing away the bacteria with deodorant soap (and drying them well) will short-circuit this process.

Since sweat can cause or contribute to foot odor, you should try to keep your feet as dry as possible. Dust your feet with baby powder or foot powder before putting on your shoes and socks. The powder will absorb moisture.

Try alum powder, put lotion on your feet (to keep the powder on your foot), then the powder, put socks on. Do this at night while you sleep, it just seems easier. This will sort of dry up your feet, so they don’t sweat so much, your feet will not produce the odors that are so embarrassing and just plain stinky! Repeat for about a week and as needed. It works!
